After a single topical dose of latanoprost 0.005%, IOP reduction is maximal within 8 to 12 hours and IOP remains below pretreatment level for at least 24 hours.
Latanoprost is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). It is similar to a natural chemical in the body (prostaglandin) and works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye which results in lower pressure.
Conclusions: : Latanoprost effectively lowers IOP during the day and night with once nightly administration. The IOP reduction can be explained by an increase in uveoscleral outflow. The daytime effects of latanoprost on IOP and uveoscleral outflow are more pronounced than the nighttime effects.
